The Air Force was Air, Space, and cyberspace. So they took Space, and maybe a little part of cyberspace to make the Space Force. Also, fun fact (to add to what pionear said). Because of the year Anniversary, they finally figured out what they want to call them. They sent out an email a little ago saying that instead of Airman, they will now be called Guardians (Like the ones of the Galaxy). So, while the Air Force had ranks like Airman First Class or Senior Airman, the Space Force with have Guardian First Class and Senior Guardian.
