I now stand firm. The beginning is so annoying. There are some kind of cool parts but the singing is never in my style. It sometimes come close, but no cigar. I can't say that I actively dislike it, but I get no pleasure from it. (holy shit can you tell how long ago I made these rankings? regardless, still not a great hymnnos, at least for me). I don't like the singing, and I can't grab on to the rest of the song. If I astral project and detach my consciousness from my body and listen without ears, I can see a lot cool with it. This song has never really done it for me at all. It's trying so hard to have personality... and feels soulless. I think cute things like the coin sounds detract from it, somehow. It makes the whole thing kind of feel even more by the numbers, like it was a song built by committee to appeal to as many nostalgic Mario fans as possible. It just comes across as corporate to me.
