This was the first election since...forever (I forget the exact time) where Texas wasn't the state with the largest Republican vote differential (in terms of number of votes not percentage). That was Tennessee. So it is definitely getting closer but I just don't have faith it'll get close enough any time soon. Yeah, even this year Texas was still about 10 points more Republican than the country as a whole.
