They were never going to listen to Fauci. They were always going to only listen to Trump. Fauci made a suggestion based on the information he had at the time, and then that suggestion changed as the information changed. Trying to go "It's his fault the MAGA chuds don't wear masks now!" is dumb. I'd say the number of people that were willing to wear a mask then and suddenly weren't after is pretty much non-existent.
