I do believe there have been a lot of sociological factors where certain toxic behaviors and beliefs went unchecked and just became ingrained. Overtime they festered and the toxicity became more pronounced. I hope there isn't a misunderstanding when I use the phrase, as I have seen people who have issues with it's use.
