Our argument at the time to the Mangs situation was "When somebody says don't touch them, don't touch them. That should be the end of it." There was no real reason to try to defend it as a mistake or missed signal. It just is what it is. Likewise, if somebody wants to be referred to by a certain name, or pronoun, or whatever, there's really no reason to be looking for reasons and examples for why it's dumb or silly or whatever, instead of just...
