I'm a lawyer that tends to makes too many typos when drafting. Recognizing that weakness, I spend a ton of time proof reading docs. I also don't file anything without having someone else read and correct my work. When you see docs like this it's more of an indication of a rushed job than poor intelligence. With that said though, there are a lot of people that end up as lawyers that aren't all that "smart". You have to be good at taking tests to do well in law school which isn't necessarily a great assessment of general intelligence.
