Can't recommend Gunstar Heroes enough. It's like Contra except you're OP. There are 4 weapon types and then you can pickup a secondary type to create a unique weapon. So you could pickup the fire weapon to have a flamethrower and then pick up a secondary laser to create a flame lazor.
