The police brutality and the response to it was also huge. No celebrity death could compare with those, including Kobe's or Chadwick Boseman's. Nor could the Beirut explosion, which didn't really carry the same lasting ramifications. The hornets aren't nearly as disruptive or destructive as climate change or the wildfires.
