It's just a lack of understanding. The problem is that the issue is complex and full of mixed messaging. "SJW things" (I know, don't @ me) like saying "gender is a social construct" out of one side of a person's mouth and "but you can be born with the wrong body" out the other just adds fuel to the doubt fire, I am sure.

Admittedly, there are people I've met where I genuinely feel like they have a female brain in a male body or vice-versa, but there are also other people who are just seemingly really lost and mentally ill and are searching for any solution and end up going that route when they maybe otherwise shouldn't, but it's unpopular to ask questions these days (which is dangerous). I do think there needs to be a nuanced approach and each individual needs to be assessed differently as with any sort of difficult medical situation. There's no one size fits all. But it does feel like an awful lot of sad, broken people just decide that might solve their problems then it doesn't. In some instances, maybe the trans situation made them depressed or anxious, in others they're depressed or anxious and probably think "maybe this will make me feel better." Those issues each need different support.

Like anything in life, it's grey, and I feel the correct approach is to simply engage in dialog and see where you end up rather than just a spectrum of knee-jerk reactions. But there are clearly some people you can tell right from an early age that they are gonna have some soul searching to do, and it's totally kicking a person while they're down to make that struggle harder for no reason beyond "they're different."

I believe there are straight (duh lol), homosexual, bi, asexual, and trans people. Maybe it's ignorant of me, but I feel like everyone belongs to one of those groups and everything is just a variation of one of them or simply a fabrication by somebody seeking to feel special.
