The only two options for this administration are being perceived as going after Trump or not going after him. The only way to avoid that while still holding him accountable is to let the states handle it, but you'll still have the cultists screaming about deep state conspiracies and oppression and you'll still have the media talk about nothing else. There's no universe where Trump is held accountable where a huge portion of public life isn't consumed by the investigation and trial. It must be done anyway, for democracy's sake.
