IMO the real emphasis on Kamala Harris's accomplishment should be the fact that she is the first woman to reach that level of American politics, leaving aside her ethnicity. I'm a lot more proud of that because there is now opportunity at the highest levels of American politics for females, which is something that is long overdue. I agree to some extent, however I don't think she has to set aside ethnicity at all. Both are part of her identify, and she deserves recognition for every aspect of who she is. On a personal note, as someone who is also multi racial, I have often been asked to set aside my own racial identify (either partially or entirely) with "pick a side", "you aren't really {{selected race A}} or {{selected race B}}".
