Climatoligists are smart enough to give important deadlines for how long we have to unfuck ourselves from serious consequences, but even the smartest scientists in the world don't know the exact extent of these consequences, which is honestly the problem with not acting now. Humanity won't magically disappear in 20 or 50 years from now even in the worst case scenario that we did nothing to address climate change. The repercussions will gradually manifest over that time.
