I'm sure he did get votes that wouldn't vote for a more progressive candidate, and that has nothing to do with whether a more progressive candidate would have done as well. There is simply no way to ever know, but I anecdotally know many who would have only voted for a more progressive candidate that didn't vote Biden. Our experiences in small numbers mean nothing. We don't actually know this until the exit polls are reweighted to the actual results (and even then they'll probably be less accurate than normal due to the difficulties of dealing with mail-in votes).
