If he was actually a genius by everyone else's metrics, I'd understand the support. His original campaign did a good job of shitting all over things that were annoying a lot of people. Once he had the power to actually stick to it, he chose the dumbest policy thing (the wall) as his hill to die on while just outcorrupting the corrupt establishment constantly.

I think almost everyone would support a dictator that they believed would make things exactly how they'd like them to be. Everyone cries freedom and liberty for the most part, but if some dictator delivered half of their policy wishlist and smited their enemies, they'd be cool with it. That's what's scary, because you never know who is next and protections that used to exist are gone if that person sucks.
