I don't want to hype you up too much, lest you be let down by inflated expectations.
I went in fully expecting it to be a lazy cash grab, but it might be my favorite Final Fantasy game, period. The only flaw I had with it is that it isn't a complete story. It is definitely a self-contained story, but this is nowhere near the full plot of the game and it leaves a ton unresolved. It is unlikely we get the second part any time soon, either, and by the time it does come out I feel like I will have forgotten some of the finer points of the story.
But the entire cast here is great. Cloud/Barret/Aerith/Tifa/even minor character (Jessie/Reno/Rude/etc) are leagues better than their original manifestation.
I agree with everything said here and original was my favourite game of all time.
