They're still a pretty big risk. Control won a whole bunch of GOTY awards and I don't have the impression it sold that well. Ironically one of the reasons they probably went with this model is that the Tomb Raider reboot sequels weren't big hits. In saying that a single player focused Avengers game with great reviews would have probably sold better than this and been less of an investment. So yeah still dumb. Established IP's do tend to still sell well as single player games. It's funny because all of the biggest multiplayer games lately have either been cheap or free to play.
