It's a high tech armor from before the world ended that projects a holographic shield or something around that completely protects you from damage. After you take a certain amount of damage, the shield has to recharge for a couple of seconds and you're vulnerable to actually take damage. If you decide to get that armor, you're basically invincible and it frees you up to fight more recklessly.
