Your misconception is that other people make the world feel so much more alive than even a game like FFX and when they aren't around it feels empty by comparison.

But if ffxiv was never online it would feel like the biggest and most vibrant ff game. Many npcs to talk and interact with. Deep lore. Fates with talking npcs, expanding the lore and localized with funny names.

I didn't get that far, so Ill let you have it. My main thing was that the fanbase was always fragmented and counting them in the same group like they're the same people makes the conversation a mess. It was pretty much agreed upon a long time ago that we talk about non MMOs separately.
