I'm pretty sure they did. But the thing is that there might be more conservative democrats than progressive ones. People who voted for Biden over Sanders would most likely vote for Sanders over Trump. These people are loyal to the Democratic Party, so they'll vote for whoever represents it. But those who voted for Sanders over Biden would most likely refuse to settle for Biden over Trump. These people are loyal to their values, so they will only vote for someone who shares the same values. For progressives, both Biden and Trump are terrible picks, so they either refuse to vote or vote for Sanders as a write-in candidate.
