There's "don't need" in the sense of "I could live without this," and then there's "don't need" in the sense of "you would literally need to attain immortality to ever have a chance of spending anywhere close to all of this." There's a lot of grey area around the concept of "you don't need this much," yes, and I'm perfectly in favour of erring on the side of luxury in trying to draw a more concrete line (again, plenty of rich people have worked hard enough for their money to deserve luxury and comfort, and that's not a bad thing), but that grey area doesn't include billionaires, and very clearly doesn't include multibillionaires.
