This makes me thinking A lot of people here are investing in big companies, and usually, you've got to be willing to hold for a substantial amount of time to expect any return on your investment. Also, a stop loss will not protect from a major disaster like that. The stock will gap down and your stop loss gets triggered far below the price at which you set it. That's exactly why stocks usually go up - because they are risky!
