In general I refuse to believe that the amount of money you pay the HOA is greater than the amount of increased value they are supposedly adding to the community. Some HOAs are good including the one that I live in. In fact my boyfriend is even on the board of it. Mostly so that he can help make sure the HOA doesn't become power hungry. When we were house hunting the first thing on our list was no HOA.
