I agree the former does have problems, but that is often due to systemic issues of underfunded schools, low access to proper food, negative police presence, etc. Having low income families move to the suburbs (which again wasn't what he stated) is akin to low income families having access to magnet schools - unless that is "destroying" them as well.
The kind of people that are nodding in agreement with Trump see all poor people as those of questionable character that have chosen to congregate in low-income areas. Poverty is seen as the natural state of these people, or a punishment for their weak attempts at winning life. It's as if poor people are the architects of poverty rather than the victims of it.
