TopicI learned that a Sonic OC (do not steal) made it into an official Sonic game.

And I'm not talking the CAC from Sonic Forces, although apparently that's where the character originated. A person who used to draw Sonic OCs on Tumblr eventually got hired to draw actual Sonic characters for their comic book. She got together with the writer for the comic and create this character called Whisper the Wolf and they introduced into the comic two years ago.

Now keep in mind Sonic comics have been around since like 1992, with Archie publishing them up until 2017 and then IDW taking over. There's a shit ton of OCs they made over the years, not to mention absorbing the old OCs from that early 90's cartoon. It's pretty comical how many fucking echidnas they made over the years:

But it seems Whisper (and another character named Tangle) proved so popular that not only did they get their own miniseries with IDW before any of the regulars (like Shadow, Tails, or Knuckles), in July this year, they added Whisper there to two sonic games. Sonic Dash and Sonic Forces: Speed Battle.

So why share this little story? To be honest, while a fan of the Sonic games and once an avid Sonic comic reader, it actually seems really cool to me that people in the fanbase who seem to have a much bigger love and devotion to this series than I do to the point where they do create characters like this, after decades of largely viewed the "bad" side of the Sonic fandom, finally get some level of validation of their fanhood by having SEGA actively acknowledge it in basically one of the best ways possible. I think it's a great example of a more tolerant society towards a group of actively maligned people (in this case furries) to help reduce some level of prejudice against them. A furry who started out drawing on Tumblr helps create a character so popular that fucking SEGA puts it in their games.

Also I wish Ed Bellis was here because he was a huge Sonic comic fan, too, and I'd love to hear what he thinks.
