For over two centuries, the USPS has been the backbone of the countrys democratic system. Without the USPS and the subsidization [https://about.usps.com/who-we-are/postal -history/periodicals-postage-history.htm] of newspaper and periodical postage rates, hundreds of millions of Americans all across our countrys history would not have been able to be informed voters. For hundreds of years, the USPS was the primary medium by which the country kept itself informed.

And now its under attack. [https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/08/06/top- democrats-say-postmaster-general-acknowledged-new-policies-that-workers- say-are-delaying-mail/]

"But we live in a digital era"

Shit breaks. Shit gets hacked. The postal service has reliably - and honorably - been transmitting essential information across the US for centuries. Do you really want to give up a tried-and-true backup when the digital realm has new threats literally every day?

Argh. They're not gonna come and tell you what to think, but by undermining the USPS they take away your chance to be informed. It really grinds my gears and I wish people took more notice because yeah, its not a sexy topic, but god damn is this important. If you really wanna dive deeper into how important a socialized, public parcel service has been historically relevant to the democratic system, check out The Death and Life of American Journalism. Amazing book.
