"mainstream media" was saying that, only because they're establishment propaganda machines pushing the establishment candidate. in reality, there were lots of people that hated both candidates to varying degrees, with a lot of "trump is bad but hillary is worse" sentiments. (keeping in mind that IIRC trump still only barely won.)

this time, the amount of "trump is bad but not as bad as" opinions are almost non-existent compared to the amount of "anything but trump" opinions.

I think it matters how much one side wants their voice heard, too (so, voting rates). this time there's going to be a *lot* of people that will be doing all they can to keep trump out, which is basically the opposite of last time (when there were lots of people doing all they could to keep hillary out).
