Either literally horror games that were too scary to play, or games that were intimidating/overwhelming to a degree where you were like...fuck this.

I can think of 4 games that did this for me:

World of Warcraft, back when this was THE MMO. I missed the boat on this game because when it came out it was peak university time and I had friends who were in danger of dropping out because of this game. It didn't seem normal at all the way people played that.

Path of Exile. I really want to give this another shot but i got into a real slow level grind around level 35 and I think I fucked up my build. In general I find ARPGs difficult to get into because of the grind and because of the community and their weird acronyms.

Dark Souls. I keep meaning to give it another shot, and maybe I will. I mean I loved Hollow Knight and the same principles apply.

Most recently, Factorio. I really enjoyed it, but once I saw the enormity of the task in front of me I had to put it down after 2 nights. I was looking up youtube tutorials and every single one was over an hour long made by a literal engineer who had sunk 3000+ hours into the game.
