Symbolically, rivers take on a life/death meaning in Japanese culture. The otherwise straight lines and right angles present in the window reflect the cut-and-dried nature of building robots. Without Dr Cykes, the lone river shape bringing life to them, most of the operation is handled by Aura, who constructs the bodies and handles the mechanics.
