Guys you already have your answer.

After WW2 much energy was spent on idealizing and idolizing private property to entrench anti communist beliefs. This hit a peak in 1957 with Ayn Rand and Objectivism. Objectivism is the "fuck you I got mine" and "every man for himself" philosophy. It is not capitalism nor is it any of the myriad political philosophies that existed between the founding if the country and the cold war.

In truth, the dominant philosophy for hundreds of years was "no man is an island"

"Fuck you I got mine" is extremely recent.
