There isn't really a lot of objective data on the subject though. My subjective experience is that discrimination exists here, but it's still preferable to the situation in the US (the discrimination may be less for some groups [a lot of blacks in Japan mention it being better here than the US, and with the police violence especially I believe it], but the violence, political situation, and quality of life is much worse in the US).
