It was only in the very last moment of the first season that she gained the ability to go into the Avatar State. And then Nickelodeon said, "Fuck it, give us another one." So instead of the relatively elegant way they'd dealt with the problem, you get a season where it's inexplicably weaker than when Aang used it. Ahh...so it was meant to be a 1-season thing?
