A lot of controversies in anime come from obscure anime even regular casual anime fans dont know about which no one would be aware of if they didnt watch anime. The whole colored hair thing is associated with anime. I mean, one of the major appeal of anime is how it breaks gender norms which is something they love. The over-sexualization in a lot of shows is the main thing that turns them off and will have them trashing the medium but mark my words there is definitely a bigger ratio of them in anime fanbases than in western animation fanbases. Although this trend of actors removing themselves from voicing other races thing seems to be more on the actors themselves and not because it was requested of them.
