It was controversial for its depiction of black people even when it was originally built Its not like folks are trying to erase Lincoln from history, they just werent ok with one particular statue The statue in question, while at first glance may appear to be a black man on his knees and subservience to Lincoln, upon closer inspection he is actually rising from his knees and Breaking Free from his shackles.
