Will you take my Pokemon They dumbed down the game this gen where anybody can breeze through it so the only choice really is to look up the version exclusive Pokemon (won't matter if you have Nintendo Online) and gym leaders and decide which one you want. With experience share not being optional, all of your Pokemon in your party gain experience even if they don't fight.
