He attached an academic article to the complaint (which is not how you go about filing complaints or rocking expert witness materials period), which I imagine required some amount of time and effort to acquire and read through (and possibly money). Like I've seen my fair share of suits I thought were frivolous but at least had a kernel of substance that made me trust my former bosses during my clerkship (and it wasn't my ass on the line, since all I had to do was find some amount of research materials and cobble together pleadings and briefs), but this is just absolutely hysterical to me.
