This topic reminded me that the world chess championship is this year, then i realized it was in Russia and that it probably won't be this year because of covid :( the candidates tournament was in April, also in Russia, and made it halfway through before it was cancelled due to COVID. It's somewhat controversial though, because the current leader of the tournament (MVL) only got to participate because Teimour Radjabov dropped out due to concerns about the coronavirus. And in retrospect, he was completely right.
