I don't think what they did was petty, but that's just nitpicking. Definitely immature and not a good look politically. Hard to tell how much of an impact they made unless Trump's campaign releases the numbers, which 1) they won't and, 2) no one would believe them. Hate to use the phrase, but poor optics for AOC.
