I was shocked by this film because it really felt as if we were getting another coming of age story, perhaps with a love triangle, and some light supernatural elements to play in the background while a larger "slice of life" sort of film unfolded in the foreground. No. Instead this is a bait and switch of the worst sort; it devolved into existential acid trips. see like, this is exactly what I loved about the movie. It was a bait and switch in the best way, culminating in one of the wildest rides I've ever seen in anime, and I loved every second of it.
