It's announced to be 6'5 28 year old Matt James, a former professional football player, now real estate agent..and he attended the BLACK LIVES MATTER protests not too long ago! He was named the new lead where the outrage over police brutality has been the subject of america's rage in recent weeks since the death of George Floyd as global protests are demanding change in policing and lack of diversity and inclusitivity in the Bachelor from former stars has finally had ABC listening The North Carolina native who now lives in NYC was originally cast in the upcoming season of the Bachelorette but instead ABC decided to choose him as the next Bachelor instead and it was fast tracked as execs were eyeing him for awhile. The next season of the Bachelorette was put on hold amid COVID-19. ABC exec, Karey Burke said they got to know Matt while on hiatus and said he'd make the perfect male bachelor. She says the studio has been eyeing him long before the protests which has lead backlash from the hot franchise not casting black male leads, including from its first black female former bachelorette, Rachel Lindsay who threatened to end her association with the show if things didn't change. Karey Burke said "This announcement wasn't a response to the protest. We could have made this annoucement earlier or later. Certainly no one is blind to what is happening in the world, so hopefully this announcement serves as a bit of optimism during a time we can really use this". They dont view this as a "cure all" but they hope this can work towards more diversity and equality in its shows Matt's season will premiere sometime next year as Rachel Lindsay says the network should do more than simply cast a black man in a lead role such as hiring producers of people of colour. She was hoping she would come on as a trailblazer for diversity but in the last 3 years since she was on, nothing changed and it was back to the same white casting. Matt hopes this casting will be a step in the right direction while praising Rachel for speaking out and advocating for change. When asked if it was too little too late, he said nothing is ever the wrong time to do the right thing.. Matt is hoping when he sees the new women that there will be a lot of diversity in the group in that limo After the death of George Floyd, Matt and his best friend went out in the Black Lives Matter Protest over the injustice of black men by the hands of police as Matt and Rachel says the lack of diversity in entertainment and white washing characters has lead to more stereotypes of black people from viewers. Rachel says "In 40 seasons you had one black lead. We have had 45 presidents and in 45 presidents, you had one black president. You are almost on part to say you're more likely to become the president of the United States than you are a black lead in a franchise. That's insane. That's ridiculous. I faced a lot of racism when i was cast as the lead bachelorette and what bothers me is the the franchise is a bit complicit. I've always been outspoken for the need of diversity as we need to show people we're not advocating to rid of white contestants but want a chance for representation" Do you think Matt is a good looking guy?
