as much as it pains me, Ryu was repeatedly retconned by Capcom from stoic, methodical karate practitioner and champion of sf1 to emo, perpetually angsty practitioner of a made up art who cheated sagat out of his belt.

ken was repeatedly retconned from being the all-American alternative to ryu who is the US karate champion and rich and brash to a Japanese-American ameriboo who dyes his hair blond (because street fighters care about clairol!) that also practices a made up art and is not that rich and follows orders from the actually rich karim.

had they kept butchering these two we would find out that ryu has lost most of his fights and cries when he gets punched and ken gets cucked by Sean and karim
