Basically, they increase each stat to some minimum level, so you're missing out on stat boosts from stats that were already above the minimum. I'm pretty sure promoting immediately is fine if you just want to beat the game, but if you're really into minimaxing you're sacrificing a bit. --- Congrats to azuarc, GotD2 Guru champ! ...
