There's still an aspect of supply and demand, though. Owners can charge as much for tickets as people will pay for them. The Knicks have been terrible for literal decades now and the tickets are still super expensive because they are basically a tourist attraction and people (and businesses) will buy the tickets no matter what.

Fans are truly on their own side in this. This proposal isn't the last chance at having a season, but if it was I think the vast majority fans would support it. This is a good way of putting it (from ESPN's article on their front page)

Q: Is the possibility of a shorter 48- or 50-game season being the final outcome still in play?

Schoenfield: Fifty games is better than zero, but 76 is ... well, 52% better than 50, so I'd be 52% happier with 76 games.
