Even if they don't explode, it doesn't mean the lockdown was pointless it means they got it under control enough that people can congregate out in wide open public areas and get lucky. These protests are happening in major cities, and major cities also happen to be where the most effort to fight the virus happened, they also peaked earlier, so even places like NYC which were heavily hit have really low daily numbers, which means less people have the virus which means less people to spread it. The current hot spots are the more rural areas, the urban areas peaked and have gone down to controllable levels.
