I don't think changes to the existing system is going to be sufficient to deal with the systemic issues that have become apparent this past week. At the same time, disbanding the police is unprecedented. I really don't have enough knowledge on the issue to say. At the very least, I think bringing up the possibility as a threat might be what's needed to convince police to rein it in a little, while a less extreme solution is developed. But if police just use it as an excuse to become even more brutal and authoritarian it may be a trigger that needs to be pulled. Right now cops know they're untouchable and that's the only reason things are as bad as they are. --- ... Copied to Clipboard! |
