That sounds demeaning because shock factor doesn't usually make for a good story, but VLR just makes it work. There's a reason this is the highest ranking Zero Escape game despite the end plot not even having much of a payoff. VLR is absolutely wild and goes so many places, with each new plot point feeling well-foreshadowed, earned, and surprising, while also setting up further questions for the next development.
