Ogre Battle is kinda neat in how there's very few scripted scenes - almost all the story is delivered in tiny bits every time you liberate a town.

Ogre Battle 64 needed a bigger story, so instead there's much longer scripted scenes during the mission briefing, post mission and even a few in certain towns - however, there's less interesting tidbits from the random towns.

Starcraft just had briefings and rarely some scripted scenes

Warcraft 1 and 2 just had briefings

...

Anyways, I rather like Ogre Battle's system of storytelling since typically I don't care about the story, but the small-bits delivery of the story really helps with that AND you get a lot of interesting clues on what to do (like if the boss is a Werewolf), which is helpful since the 100% Perfect ending has some hella-convoluted requirements.
