doesn't quite seem like a fair comparison there imo

The issue isn't that it's asking me to get weird stars, the issue is that the game's controls and engine have artifacts that make movement awkward in a multitude of placements. For example...

Nothing quite like facing a ledge, pressing the opposite direction from a stop, and having Mario run forward because he has to run in a circle to turn around.
