I think the rise in bullshit SJWism is directly related to the rise in social media, and the overall degradation of critical thinking happening to the entire population. Think about it, all of the "hot takes" you see on Twitter are a stream of consciousness to a bunch of people that historically never had a platform to air that stream at.

This has resulted in the rapid rise of what I call "emotional decision making". People so badly want that instant gratification they get from Twitter/Facebook etc, that they buy full force into the cause de jeur, even though any small measure of critical thinking immediately exposes the flaws in that line of thinking.

A great example is the "public backlash" to the numerous oil and gas pipelines recently. People buy into the "evil polluting corporation from Captain Planet" narrative and feel good about how "woke" and "environmentally concious" they are. However, any amount of research or critical thinking immediately highlights how pipelines are better for the environment than the alternatives. I've actually seen some of these people decry hydro electricity because "it floods the forest".

The subject of representation in media is also a silly one. These internet trolls claim that every piece of media needs a token cast member of every race/gender/ethnicity/whatever, despite the fact that some of the people they are asking for token characters of represent groups that comprise a miniscule portion of the population. This whole thing has spiralled out of control to the point of absurdity, and as Ulti said, people are starting to wake up to it.

My favourite example of tokenism run amok is the 2016 Ghostbusters movie. We were supposed to like it, because "girl power", and it ended up being one of the shittiest movies ever made. Yet if you point out that their brand of screaming and fart jokes isn't at all funny, you're a "basement dwelling sexist". Oh please.

People say "gamers are racist" because they don't buy into tokenism and other tripe of that sort, but in reality, gamers are just better critical thinkers than the average population, and are more likely to question the media being placed in front of them (as opposed to say, movie-goers or TV watchers).
