M.2 is nice because it plugs directly into the mobo with no wires. The mobo I mentioned above does have a M.2 slot, but if you go in another direction with mobo/CPU, just check if your new mobo takes M.2 before purchasing anything. 2.5" will work no matter which direction you go. Can't speak to transferring the OS to the new drive.
